I have little existing experience of configuring/using any CMS Portal
so was glad to have a chance to experiment — principally to get
WebCalendar running (using Wrapper). It meant changing many parameters in WebCalendar's
CSS file, to reduce font sizes, elements and item spacings, but was an interesting challenge.
I've since added two more Wrapper elements, phpBB Forum and Coppermine
Picture Gallery, as well as Simpleboard Forum software (a native Mambo
component). Pete & I agreed that phpBB Forum was the better solution though. Then I found DOCMan — great for file uploads/downloads and document sorting!
Note: I started off by running this CMS portal on my own domain c2gaj.biz — adding content in bits and
pieces in order to experiment and learn more about its capabilities. Then I arrived at the stage where it was pointless to continue on a dummy site, so I transferred the Mambo portal in a fairly painless exercise (though it involved tweaking the database) and began carrying on from there. At this time of writing I've now got to sort out the Coppermine Photo Gallery, remove the Simpleboard Forum and tidy up a lot of the extraneous demo data from the vanilla install of Mambo — more anon perhaps ... |
